History

2007 - The first season for I-Beam set a high benchmark. After a couple of trial matches the club went to the regional qualifiers seeded 4. At the business end of the tournament they suffered some close losses and dropped down to finish fourth.

The result took them to AUCC in Melbourne seeded 5. Encouraged by the close results from regionals, the squad had a solid chance of becoming the first Newcastle club to reach the semi-finals at AUCC. Hopes were dashed when I-Beam were bundled out in their preliminary semi by Fakulti. They recovered to win the final playoff games and finish fifth.

Later in 2007, I-Beam had four players selected for the 2008 Australian Dingos. The club also had one player selected for the Australian Masters team.

2008 - In season 2, I-Beam negotiated the regional qualifiers with only one warm up tournament under their belt. Despite the light preparation I-Beam landed themselves in the 2nd/3rd playoff, beating rivals Fyshwick Utd to finish second. During the tournament I-Beam also defeated long time arch-rivals Wollongong, to win the Steel City Trophy.

I-Beam entered AUCC08 as the no. 3 seeds. The tournament will be remembered by most as the wettest and muddiest national championships ever. The scrappy conditions suited I-Beam.

Despite their high seed, the Newcastle side was afforded few easy games. They were forced to produce some gutsy performances to stay alive in the tournament. The team’s relentless fight earnt them a place in the semi-finals, once again facing rivals Fyshwick Utd.

It was the first time a Newcastle open side had reached the semis at AUCC. This time, however, it was the Canberrans who prevailed, edging out I-Beam for the second time in the tournament and progressing to the final.

I-Beam bounced back to win the 3rd/4th playoff against Kiwi side Eastern Territories.

2009 - I-Beam plans to continue its improvement and rise to the summit of Australian Club Ultimate.

Training sessions for the 2009 open season will commence in January.

During the off-season the club boosted its sponsorship status. I-Beam has extended its partnership with VC Ultimate Custom Uniforms and Performance Apparel. With VC’s ongoing assistance I-Beam are able to maintain their fresh on-field look and still play in state-of-the-art materials.

I-Beam has also secured a major sponsor for the upcoming seasons. Lindsay & Dynan Consulting Engineers has signed-on with
I-Beam to assist the club in its continued development.

Through its partnership with Lindsay & Dynan, I-Beam hopes to improve the profile of Ultimate in Newcastle whilst working to achieve a similar goal for the Lindsay & Dynan brand, throughout Newcastle and the engineering community.
